In 2008, a group of special agents came together to discuss the need for a short women's self-defense course that would empower women to protect themselves in dangerous situations. They recognized the importance of teaching practical, actionable techniques that women could easily learn and remember.
After months of development and testing, they created "Be My Own Bodyguard," a comprehensive self-defense course that focuses on the five most needed one-and-done moves to allow potential victims to escape and run if attacked.
The course also emphasizes the best ways to avoid violent interactions altogether.
The team of special agents drew upon their real-world expertise in executive protection, undercover surveillance operations, and conflict resolution used in hostage and crisis negotiations to develop the moves and techniques taught in the course. They chose not to teach martial arts but instead focused on teaching short, precise techniques that have incapacitating results on a potential attacker.
